The Story Behind Mother Mercury

Mother Mercury was founded out of pure admiration for Queen and their legendary frontman Freddie Mercury. The band didn’t settle for a superficial approach — they dive deep into every detail: the vocals, arrangements, costumes, stage acts, and lighting — everything is studied and perfected down to the finest nuance.

Sonny Vande Putte (lead vocals) is the face and soul of Mother Mercury. In 2024, he won the VTM TV show “Starstruck” with a stunning performance, channeling Freddie Mercury’s moves, voice, and flair. His energy and stage presence transform every performance into a total experience — much more than a simple cover show.

The band has established itself as one of the most authentic Queen tribute bands in Europe. Their setlist features Queen’s biggest hits, including Bohemian Rhapsody, Don’t Stop Me Now, Somebody to Love, Radio Ga Ga, and We Are the Champions.

Over the years, Mother Mercury has performed on countless stages and events — from theatres to major festivals — and in themed shows such as “50 Years of Bohemian Rhapsody”. In 2025, their show “Queen by Mother Mercury – 50 Years of Bohemian Rhapsody” is scheduled at Capitole Ghent and various other venues across Belgium.
